Course in Spelling and Reading Through Phonics for Tutors
(in association with Quantum Literacy)
This is a training course specifically designed for people wanting to tutor beginners or to help children and adults who have problems with literacy. The most up-to-date, effective methods of teaching reading, writing and spelling using a phonics-first approach (sounds, letters and rules) are introduced and demonstrated.
This course also shows you how to recognise literacy problems and offer appropriate tutoring. Over 600 students have taken the course over the last five years. It can be the starting point for a rewarding career in developing and improving literacy in both adults and children.
The course pack is comprised of a study guide, basic teaching kit, textbook and a demonstration lesson CD.

Research Animal Training Scheme (RATS)
The aim of this course is to familiarise all those working with animals with the standards required by State legislation, the "Australian Code of Practice for the Care and Use of Animals for Scientific Purposes", and an institutional Animal Ethics Committee. In addition, it will provide useful theoretical and practical experience on common procedures and techniques used with laboratory animals, while emphasising the welfare and safety aspects of these procedures.
The course consists of both presentations and practical sessions. Participants may attend all/any of the modules, though it should be noted that some modules are prerequisites and module one must be completed before attending any other modules.
Potential participants: All who use/will use animals for research or teaching purposes eg. under-graduate students, honours students, post-graduate students, and experienced researchers who wish to update their knowledge.
